Resources & Moʻolelo

Ho’āla Kealakekua Nui offers historical and cultural training for boat tour operators and community members interested in the true genealogy of Kealakekua Bay. Our goal is to support everyone who regularly uses or visits the bay in sharing its rich history and mo’olelo (stories), beyond the well-known tales of Captain Cook.

Participants will receive an official Ho’āla Kealakekua Nui seal of approval and a certificate of completion. This certification can be displayed on your company’s website and other marketing materials, signaling to visitors that your tours provide an authentic and informed experience. We are collaborating with the Division of State Parks to align this certification program with the annual renewal of use permits.

The training is led by Shane Akoni Palacat-Nelsen, Executive Director of Ho’āla Kealakekua Nui, a lineal descendant and cultural practitioner, who shares moʻolelo passed down from generational Kealakekua elders. It is our kuleana (responsibility) to educate ourselves, represent Hawaii with integrity, and preserve Hawaiian history for visitors and future generations.

This traditional Hawaiian culture training, led by both Shane Akoni Palacat-Nelsen and Kanani Enos, is an excellent opportunity to gain true knowledge about this wahi pana (storied place). Mahalo for your participation. Please contact us directly to learn more.
